Venice, Part 4: Murano Island

On our last morning, we took a quick boat excursion to Murano Island to visit the famous glass-blowing factories there. Legend has it that centuries ago, the factories were in Venice but too many of them caught on fire and threatened the city, so the Doges (sort of like powerful Venetian "mayors") relocated them to nearby Murano.

The tour included a chance to watch the glass being sculpted (for approximately 10 minutes), followed by a tour of the glass showroom (approximately 90 minutes)! I had never seen so much glass in one place...

Boarding our little taxi to get to Murano. It was quite cozy in there! The view from the back window... ...which John greatly enjoyed.
Say "Glass"! The Lagoon was very choppy that morning! The glass-factory workers. Hard at work.
It takes two. Charts to help the process. The showroom. A particularly strange piece of glass.
So much to choose from. The factory sign outside. Waiting for the taxi home. Is this Venice or the Caribbean?
