Paris: A Stroll Down Memory Lane

As the trip grew nearer, I decided that I wanted to go back to certain places in Paris that would remind me of my time there as a kid. John was completely gung-ho about the idea and proved a wonderful and patient companion.

Here's a peek at some things that take me back in time...

Here I am in front of the bookstore where I would buy books and school supplies when I was younger! It hadn't changed at all! Here is one of the movie theaters on the Champs-Elysees where we would go to catch the latest American movies in English, instead of dubbed in French! It's where I saw films like Top Gun, Pretty in Pink, Dirty Dancing and The Empire of the Sun! This particular Metro stop is interesting because I once fainted here! This time, John made sure to hold on extra tight, and all was well! This is the #8 Metro line, from Balard to Creteil, where I went to school and also lived for a while. I used to know the order of the stops by heart!
The inside of the cars is still the same blue! Nothing had changed! First stop, Porte Doree, to find one of my old houses. John was pretty excited! I was too!
Here we are! Let's go see if we can find it! This is it! It was 13, rue du Colonel Oudot! And here I am in front! I think we lived on the 2nd or 3rd floor? And here is the rest of the street.
Next, we set off exploring the neighborhood. John is taking the exact same route that I would take to get to my middle school! The busy intersection points to the best part of living in the area: the Bois de Vincennes, which is an amazing "woods" or park 2 minutes away. A golden statue and palm trees beckon you. John demonstrates his hula moves in front of the Tropical Aquarium on the corner.
At the park, lots of families go for walks, runners get fit, and dogs have a fun day out. My mom and I would rent bikes on sunny days and ride around... We then continued on to Creteil, where we lived and where my school was. We didn't get off the train here, but our apartment was a quick walk from the station.
For lunch, we went to Creteil Soleil, which is a huge shopping mall one stop away. John took this shot of me as I tried to make a phone call. The mall itself was completely redone and out of this world!
