Morocco: The Digital Explorer Expedition, Part 2

Here are some more images from Morocco. This batch focuses on our escape from the dusty, crowded streets of Marrakech to the open trails of the High Atlas mountains.

You can also read my account of part of the trip on the Digital Explorer website, Day 9.

We could see our destination in the distance. Here I am in the minibus, recording both the views and the Berber music emanating from the tape-player. The group on one of the first treks. Walking uphill to reach an oasis in the mountains.
Our favorite crashing pad, the Kasbah de Toubkal in Imlil. Gorgeous! The view from the Kasbah. Jamie working on live satellite links for the Digital Explorer aspect of the trip. Sunset at another gite (local B&B) where we stayed.
Jamie takes a break from being an expedition leader and enjoys the view. I think it's all quite funny! More stunning views. Me and Mr. Fluffy, the name the kids affectionately gave my camera.
Villages seemed to grow out of the mountains. An impromptu football game, feeling like we were on top of the world! It was so beautiful. Luckily, we were able to set up camp and spend the night under the stars. We had the best mules in the Atlas!
Ann-Marie, one of the teachers on the trip! She was my roomie for 10 days! Parts of the trek reminded me of Wyoming, or even parts of northern New Mexico. Here we are on our final peak! Everyone did a great job getting up there! We pause to take a group shot.
What a look! The students, chilling up top. Our fearless mountain guides Mohammad, Mustafa and Ali! Ali takes me for a ride on his mule!
At our last gite in Aremd, everyone relaxes on the terrace. There was even an impromptu talent show! Jamie shows everyone how it's done... Mustafa and Onai choreographed a little number together!
The next morning, we were above the clouds! I raced out to capture it on film (which I don't think I did!) Leaving Imlil to go back to Marrakech. Here I am with a boy we called Tibet. I told him to wait 10 years and I'd marry him... He was amazing! Back in London, on the Tube, Onai helps us remember our amazing Berber adventures and friends. "We will always have Marrakech..."

I miss you. It is such a thrill to see you on my monitor. I'm living vicariously thru your adventures, though I've experienced new adventures of my own since my daughter Melody was born ten months ago.

Would love to chat if you have a moment when you are not hanging from a cliff. Email is best: royaeen@bu.edu
