Leaving for Shimshal

Topic: Travel (118 words, 1 comment)

Greetings from Karimabad. Spent an amazing twenty four hours overlooking the Hunza valley, at Eagle's Nest Hotel. Giving up hot showers, good food and cold beers (smuggled in from China) for flea-infested goat skins, shepherds' huts and glacial meltwater.

Just purchased 26 packets of instant noodles for the trip, as we can only buy bread and yak products in the valley. Hope to meet some friendly yak herders and their herds, and hope that they like to be interviewed on camera.

Long live visual anthropology and bos gruniens (the Latin name for a yak - 'grunting ox').

Love to all. Don't expect any communications for next ten days or so.

ps changed flight to August 26th
