For a change of pace, I thought I'd celebrate the birthdays of two amazing people in one post!

They're not actually born on the same day, but as today is Jason's birthday (yay!) and also the day I am finally posting pictures from Natasha a.k.a. Fluffy's birthday weekend in Marrakech (double yay!), so it all sort of makes sense... I'll explain why I call her fluffy some other time. Has to do with a photography class in NYC many moons ago...

Jason is my evil twin, or so goes the Magnetic Fields song... which I heard for the first time with him in my car in Charlottesville as we were driving off somewhere, with an emergency pit-stop in front of Plan 9 so I could buy I (the album), released earlier that day.

Marrakech weekend was December 1 - 3, 2006 and was absolutely brilliant. Natasha is one of the loveliest humans on the planet, and it warmed my heart to be able to celebrate with her, her family and all of her friends as she entered into her third decade. She was able to pull it all off with style and fluffy grace like no other. Here's to many more great birthdays...

Birthday girl captured by my new wide angle lens. Our first lunch on the riad rooftop. The lovely family (mom, dad and sis!) Can you spot the family in this photo?
Relaxing on the roof! Here I am, happy to be in the sun! London it was not! The lovely Djma Al Fna square with lots of local flair. Setting up the food stalls for the nightly feasts...
Fresh squeezed OJ, anyone? Mmmmmmm. What an inspiring place to be. Sunset from a rooftop in the old quarter. This was my favorite hour.
I had never seen a pink satellite dish before! I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. Simply breathtaking. One of our lovely breakfast spreads. Even the cereal looked special and exotic.
Some views of the rooftop. It was really serene here. I try to soak in as much sun as possible. Natasha looks radiant.
We all fell in love with Moroccan slippers. Ready to go into the souk. The girls take care of last minute affairs. Ayo enjoys the gorgeous flowers in the courtyard.
Later, in the souk, we shopped for slippers! The selection can be a bit overwhelming. Just to remind you where you were. Soon, we needed some fresh air. Check out the giant film screen they put up for the Marrakech Film Festival!
Michelle and Julie were great companions. As were the Greek boys... We visited the Jardin Majorelle, recently renovated by Yves Saint Laurent, to escape the city for a bit. What an oasis.
The colors were so vivid. When we got back to the riad, I snapped this photo of the courtyard as they prepared for the birthday party that night!
