Drumroll please: Going to Antarctica!

Topic: Travel (325 words, 3 comments)

Well, it was about time I shared the big news of my upcoming trip to Antarctica!

As crazy as it seems, this sun-loving, surf-worshipping, bikini-living Middle Eastern lizard is moving away from the mountains of Norway, Morocco and Pakistan, and setting her sights on the icebergs of the Antarctic Peninsula to join Robert Swan's IAE5 Expedition to Antarctica in a mere 22 days!!

It all began during shooting for a talking heads series on explorers at the Royal Geographical Society. Robert was kind enough to let us interview him for the Explore Conference in November 2006, and we kept in touch after that via email. A few weeks later, we met up again at the RGS and after an in-depth chat about interests and education and climate change and all sorts of lovely topics, Robert kindly asked me along on this fantastic voyage to help his photo and film crew. The rest lies somewhere between fantasy, reality and history! Here's an article from BBC that mentions the trip.

I am lucky to have two amazing sponsors for this trip: G24i have sponsored the expedition itself (no small feat)!

And Concurrent Technologies have sponsored my flights all the way to Ushuaia, Argentina as well as some very essential gear for the trip!

I leave for Ushuaia (the southernmost city in the world!!) on February 14 and return there on March 3. I will hit NYC for a few days on my return, but will hopefully be able to update this site with stories and images from the field!!

Also, please follow the adventure as we inaugurate Antarctica's first Educational Base (again, thanks to Robert's amazing vision and dedication). We will be broadcasting live from the ends of the earth, so stay tuned...

Good luck! I am wondering if someday I could go to the North Pole! I enjoy hearing news about the Northern Lights and the Southern Lights...something we never see here in America, or out there in Europe. :).

Meanwhile, I hope all is going well for you. Take Care.
