Getting to Ushuaia, Argentina

Checking into cyberspace from the domestic airport in Buenos Aires with fellow-expeditioner and cool gal Joanne, waiting for our last 5 hour flight to the literal bottom of the earth. All this after a 33 hour journey from London, where 2 flights to NYC were cancelled after snow at JFK. We managed to hop on a flight via Brazil, avoiding North America altogether. I forgot how much I love the energy of South America and it feels amazing to be back. Just have to find my bearings with my Spanish again, although it's been fairly successful so far! Even managed to find out how to get free wi-fi cards from the airport bar, called "Locos por el Futbol" or Crazy for Football.

It's funny to be wearing big boots and carrying loads of cold weather gear around, especially since it is their summer here and the locals are all running around in flip flops and sporting gorgeous tans... I remind myself that I am merely passing through this city and on my way to a far colder climate.

Just found out that Rob Swan himself will meet us at airport tonight. All quite surreal, but it definitely feels like we are about to embark on something really big and really special.

Thinking about my team at Offscreen and the wonderful adventure that they are on. I am so proud of them and love receiving the odd email or blog message from the kids while they are out in the field... I am still traveling with them in spirit.

Before I forget, please follow the Antarctic adventure on the expedition website and watch as we inaugurate Antarctica's first Educational Base.

Enjoying a hard-earned beer at Heathrow as we await news of cancelled flights... After 11 hours on the plane, they let passengers off at Sao Paulo airport in Brazil and we sneak over to the door for a breath of fresh air! Arriving in Buenos Aires International airport, we take a local shuttle to the domestic airport and prepare to wait some more... From the coach, we saw much of downtown Buenos Aires, including the "Tower of the English" (my translation).
Fun trucks and local soda. We liked the seemingly endless bottles on the back of this truck... It was seriously long. Street vendors selling Football paraphernalia. I think there was a big match today, because another girl in the airport was wrapped in the Argentinian flag.
Joanne has the map and shows us the way! Hours later and we make it to the bar that has free wi-fi. I'm exhausted but happy. Jo says "Hey relax!". The sign of the day! Who knew Crazy For Football would connect me to the outside world?? xx

Carolyn and Cath, looking forward to sending regular updates. Wonder what kind of an internet connection we will have while crossing Drake Passage? ;) Or if we'll be able to get out of bed... Been hearing some awful sea-sickness stories over the past few hours!
