Tusen Takk Norway!

Ah, Norway the land of the vikings! Tusen Takk (literally a thousand thanks) to you, your mountains, your snow and ice, for supplying the perfect conditions for our 2007 Nordic Challenge.

And what an amazing journey it was. For starters, our group was smaller this year, and benefited from the guiding wisdom and leadership of Stephen, Halvard and Sinova (from Norway) and Ivan (from Slovakia, currently living in Bergen), as well as the lifetime cross-country power duo Mama Stapleton and Tante Inga (Stephen's aunt).

I will write more about the route and various cabins along the way, but I just received these pictures from fellow Nordic Challenger Gabriel from Spain and wanted to post them immediately. I was quite lucky, as Gaby and I wound up skiing much of the route together because of our pace and stride, and he had his camera on him the whole time! So, there are many Gaby and Marjan (and just Marjan) shots! The joke was that my mom would love him for this!

Here we go! We passed through countless valleys like this. Utterly breathtaking. Hmm, visibility is not so great. I think it's that way? Ah look, it's Marjan and Gaby!
The skies were just about to break... and let some sunshine in. Look what happens to your hair when you ski lots and have goggles and sunglasses on your head! Nice light! Looking back at our tracks...
Taking a quick photo break with Halvard, our Norwegian guru (also quite a big film buff). Onwards! The backpack only gets heavier the more you hang around. The views along the way were so varied. Here we have descended back to the tree line. One of our cabin rooms. Ciara and I were posing for Gaby's camera (and just trying to relax our aching muscles).
Here Lucy and I are crossing a frozen lake and were in a magical mist. And again, with Marjan and Gaby! Lunch pit stop on the frozen lake. Nothing but pure white and mist. GORGEOUS. A quiet (and warmer) cabin moment with Ciara, Annabel and me. We are exhausted but happy to be challenged (especially for such a good cause!)
